Marc ShaimanWinner of both the Tony and Grammy Award for the score to the smash hit Broadway musical “Hairspray”, Marc Shaiman is a legendary composer, lyricist, musical director, producer, and vocal arranger. Marc started his career as a vocal arranger for the one and only Divine Miss M, Bette Midler. He eventually became her Musical Director & Co-Producer for many of her recordings including the Grammy Award winning songs “Wind Beneath My Wings” & “From A Distance.” One of Marc’s greatest moments working with Bette was their collaboration of her Emmy Award winning performance on Johnny Carson’s final “Tonight Show”. In addition to the above honors, Marc has also won an Emmy Award for Billy Crystal’s Oscar Medleys and nominated for five Academy Awards for the films “Sleepless in Seattle”, “The American President”, “The First Wives Club”, “Patch Adams”, and “South Park: Bigger, Louder, and Uncut”. The video debuted on FunnyOrDie.com on December 3, 2008 & garnered 1.2 million views (currently it has over 4 million views: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/c0cf508ff8/prop-8-the-musical-starring-jack-black-john-c-reilly-and-many-more-from-fod-team-jack-black-craig-robinson-john-c-reilly-and-rashida-jones). Carolee Carmello

With the voice of an angel one could listen to forever, it’s quite appropriate that two time Tony Award nominee, Carolee Carmello achieved Theatre Immoratality on May 19, 2009 with her own caricature at Sardi’s Restaurant. She received a Tony Award Nomination & Drama Desk Award for her portayal of “Lucille Frank” in Jason Robert Brown’s “Parade” and nominations for “Gabrielle” in Elton John & Ann Rice’s “Lestat”.  Her other Broadway credits include: “Kiss Me Kate”, “The Scarlet Pimpernel”, “”1776”, “City of Angels”, “Falsettos” & “Urinetown”. Off-Broadway, Carolee wowed audiences in the Tom Greenwald & Andrew Lippa musical “john and jen” as well as “Elegies”, “A Class Act”, “Das Barbecu”, “I Can Get It For You Wholesale”, “Vagina Monologues” and “Hello Again” (for which she received an Obie Award for Outstanding Performance). On TV, Carolee was nominated for a SAG Award for playing “Maple La Marsh” in “Remember W.E.N.N”.  She has also been seen on such hit TV shows as “Frasier”, “Ed”,  and “Law & Order”. Currently, Carolee can been seen belting it out and dancing it up as “Donna”, in the Broadway mega hit “Mamma Mia” at The Winter Garden Theatre in New York City. You haven’t heard “The Winner Takes It All” until you’ve heard Carolee Carmello sing it!

1. Who inspired you to become a performer? I never really knew I wanted to be a performer.  I did listen to the 2 Broadway cast albums my parents had in the house:  West Side Story (the movie) and The Sound of Music (the movie).  I also loved
the movie musicals that were shown on TV once a year:  Cinderella, 1776, The Sound of Music.  But, I didn’t really imagine doing it myself.  It never occurred to me.

2. What is the highest and lowest note you can sing? I don’t know…I belt to about an E or F….although, I have done shows where it was higher (Urinetown….crazy!)   My legit soprano doesn’t get used as much….I once played “Amalia” in She Loves Me and had to sing that note at the end of “Vanilla Ice Cream” (I think it’s a B?)  and before that I was an understudy for “Cosette” in Les Miz and went on all of once in a year….she sings that high C at the end of Act I….not my prettiest note.

3. Is there ever a time you thought about quitting? Definitely!  There was a time when I was unemployed and I took the civil service exam for New York State to try to change careers and another slow period when I was preparing to take the LSAT test to go to law school.  Nowadays, I still think about it, even when I’m working.

4. Do you have any strange or unusual talent that no one knows about? Well, I do have a degree in Business Administration….that sometimes surprises people.  Like I said, I never really planned to go into this business.

5. Who is the one person you haven’t worked with that you would like to? Hannah Montana!!!

6. Favorite kind of shoes? I may be the only woman on the planet who doesn’t really care about shoes….I like my New Balance running shoes  : ]

7. What skin care products do you use? Mostly Clinique stuff.

8. Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts? What do you order? I go to Starbucks ’cause they’re everywhere, but I order TEA….I don’t really like their coffee…too strong…I’m a wimp.

9. Favorite kind of sundae (ice cream flavor & toppings)? Where I grew up (upstate New York) there is a little chain of ice cream stores called Stewart’s and my favorite sundae of all time is their “make-your-own sundae”.  You can put all the toppings on that you want, even when there’s no more ice cream in the bowl.  I get vanilla ice cream and cover it with butterscotch, fudge, marshmallow, and tons of chopped peanuts!  OMG … I want one right now!

10. What website do you get your news from? Actually, I don’t use the computer much…In fact, I hope I can figure out how to send this e-mail!
