The UnderstudyI went to see the Roundabout Theatre’s hilarious production of “The Understudy” tonight starring Tony Award Winner Julie White, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, & Justin Kirk. Take a look inside the world of theatre as you watch what happens during the dress rehearsal of putting a show together. The amount of comedic genius in this show is pretty amazing. Julie White’s impeccable comedic timing shines brightly as stage manager “Roxanne.” She has a unique gift for comedy as was already brilliantly demonstrated in Broadway’s “Little Dog Laughed.” There’s not a moment that goes by without her getting rousing laughter from the audience. Justin Kirk gives a brilliant performance as “Harry,” The Understudy, convinced he will go on stage. Mark-Paul Gosselaar makes a triumphant stage debut as “Jake,” the star of the show. He knows how to command the stage & keeps your interest. He has great comedic chops & plays the star perfectly. The inside industry jokes play off wonderfully, while the chemistry between Julie, Mark-Paul, and Justin blend together as though they were meant to be together. For a night of laughter and fun go see “The Understudy” at the Laura Pels Theatre on 46th Street (between 6th & 7th Avenue) in NYC until January 17.

I also had the privilege of meeting Julie White & Mark-Paul Gosselaar. What an evening!
