Sometimes you just need a fun and comical musical to take you away and that is exactly what I found in the 2010 NYMF production of “Frog Kiss” featuring fellow “Adaumbelle’s Quest” participants Curtis Holbrook and Kate Pazakis along with Hanley Smith, Terry Burrell, Joseph Dellger, Manna Nichols, Theis Weckesser, Jordan Barbour, Kenita Miller, Herman Sebek, Andrew Cao, and Lindsay Chambers.

“Frog Kiss” tells the story a princess who needs to marry a prince before the next full moon! ┬áCurtis Holbrook really shines bright as “The Frog” in this hilarious and entertaining musical comedy. Using his impeccable comedic timing along with his pristine vocals and skilled dance moves, including a stupendous tap number in Converse sneakers, Curtis puts on quite a show for all to enjoy! Joining Curtis in the fun are Hanley Smith as “Princess Clemetine” who must find a prince to marry before the next full moon. With a beautiful singing voice and vocal inflection, Hanley brings out the laughs as she stays true to what she is looking for in a prince despite her parents wishes. Terry Burrell and Joseph Dellger play “Queen Margot” and “King Frederic,” each having their moment to shine. Manna Nichols plays “Hortense,” the younger sister of “Princess Clemetine.” Manna lights up the stage with her big, powerful vocals which echo beautifully throughout the theatre. She also uses her sly facial expressions to demonstrate her many devious moments. Theis Weckesser plays “Klaus,” the husband of “Hortense.” ┬áTheis’ moment comes more towards the end of the show as he demonstrates his dance skills and good vocals. Andrew Cao and Lindsay Chambers play “Everyman” and “Everywomen” adding more comic relief to an already funny story. Andrew does have a solo dance moment in which he shows the audience just what he’s got! Jordan Barbour, Kenita Miller, Kate Pazakis, and Herman Sebek collectively stand-out as the “Tao Masters.” Each performer bringing their own special skill to their role. While I’ve highlighted individual moments, the cast as a whole works so well together, they all deserve the standing ovation they got!

With only 5 performances left, this is one NYMF show you’ll want to see!

Produced by Brierpatch Productions and Tamara Tunie the Production Advisor, “Frog Kiss” is about a very scientific princess named “Clementine” who meets a frog she is determined to turn into a prince-with the help of a troupe of Celestial Tap-Dancing Taoist Masters. Will Clementine get the Prince of her dreams, or will she find herself in bed with just another horny toad? It’s a bedtime story with a bawdy twist! Based on the Stephen Mitchell novella “The Frog Prince.”
